Ecclesiastes 5

Ecclesiastes 5 - Words that are Honorable

Do you remember making a pinky promise as a kid? These were the most important of all promises. Even as a little kid, you knew it was vital to follow through on these promises because theywere secured with the sacred act of a pinky swear. Solomon shares that every vow you ever speak should be taken as seriously as a childhood pinkypromise.

Ecclesiastes 5:4-5

When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it.He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow.It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it. Have you ever beenon thereceiving end of a broken promise? It’s disheartening to be let down by those you love. That’s why Solomon speaks against unfulfilled vows. When you tell someone that you are going to do something, make sure that you follow through. That’s what makes your words honorable and your friendship reliable. Don’t speak empty words just because you think they’re what someone wants to hear. Instead, make only intentional promises that you are ready to bring to fruition.

PrayerPrompt:God, please help me to follow through on my promises to you and my friends. Help me toalways keep my word so I can better glorify you and serve those around me.
